Greg Forrester and Gael Orr co-founded HOPE in January of 2004.  They founded the organization after recognizing a need for an ecumenical missionary sending agency. Since the formation of the 501c3 non-profit organization, more than 2000 volunteers have enjoyed mission ministry in locations worldwide.  Hurricane Katrina Relief centers of various denominations have hosted HOPE Teams.
