Greetings from Piura!
A lot has been happening since my last update, so let
me get you caught up on things.
We have recently started work on the Training
Center. The foundation has been dug,
the base poured and they have started to lay
brick.
We hope to have four of the rooms completed by the end
of the month, meaning that the walls will be raised. Our goal is to put in the
floors and the roofs.
After that will be windows and
doors.
We have enough funds to cover work for another three
weeks. All of the funds
that I raised while back in the states have been used up. The exchange rate has
continued to drop since I have returned to Peru. Also, prices for some of the
materials have risen.
We would like to have as much of the work completed
before the medial team comes in June. If you could help by sending an
offering to help us continue the work, it would be greatly
appreciated.
Please continue to pray for the work going on
here. As many of you
are dealing with winter storms and cold temps, here it continues to
be hot and dry.
The workers have been working in 90 degree
temperatures for most of the month of February. They start to work at 6 am,
to beat some of the heat.
I have enclosed some pictures of the work that is
being done for you to see the progress as it takes place. For all of you that have
given a gift to help us build our vision of the training center, we
thank you and pray that God will bless your
giving.
In other news, we continue to hold classes on
Saturdays and Sundays for the children. This month many of them will
start school. Please
pray that God will protect them as they travel back and forth to
school. Most children
here walk or take public transportation to
school.
In our classes on Saturdays, we have been teaching the
children stories of the life of Jesus. We will complete the lessons
in April. In our craft
classes, the children have designed and made their own checker
boards. They also have
been learning to macramé and crochet.
Once the training center is built, this will give us
much needed space and room to grow our
program.
Again thank you to each and every one for your prayers
and support for the work here.
We would love to hear from you, so please keep in touch.
(E-mails are welcomed!)
Blessings,
Jon Edwards

Greetings,
Wanted to write to you because I
need to ask a few questions. Can you tell me
how I can post something to the BLOG on the
web-site? Don't really understand that, but know there is
probably an easy way to do it.
Also, you had mentioned something
about health insurance through your organization. Would I be
able to purchase it from you? Are there forms that I have to
fill out and if so, can you email them to me?
Also, I would like to write
something for you to post before I leave for Peru on the
27th.
I have written something below, if
you can post that to the page that will be great.
Have a great Thanksgiving and I will
try to write again before I head back to Peru.
Blessings,
Jon
ARTICLE FOR WEB PAGE
Greetings everyone! I just
wanted to write one last time before I leave for Peru on the 27th of
this month.
I have had a wonderful time these
past few months and have met some great people during my
travels. To all of the churches that opened their doors to me,
gracias, gracias, muchas gracias! To all of my friends who
have helped me with housing, car rides, meals, a place to relax, a
BIG thank you to each one.
To give you the latest update on the
building fund, we are now over half way to our goal. When I
return we will start this project after the holidays, probably the
first of the year.
Remember it is not too late to
help. If you would like to send an offering for the work,
please make checks payable to ELIM FELLOWSHIP, and write in the memo
PERU/bldg. fund and then send to;
Elim Fellowship - 1703 Dalton Road - Lima, NY
14485
(please note new
address)
We will celebrate Christmas on the
17th with everyone from the area and then have a special Christmas
Party for the church on the 23rd of December. Remember to pray
for three friends coming to visit on the month from Agape Fellowship
of Brattleboro, VT. (Jim, Darlene & Alberta)
I will be speaking this Sunday the
26th at the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania and then leave from Pittsburgh on the 27th at around
11:45am, arriving in Lima just before midnight.
Please remember to keep my travels
in your prayers and that I will get the "Green Light" as I go
through customs. For those of you who do not know why I am
asking this, in Peru when you pass through customs you need to press
a button to see if you get to pass through without having them open
your bags. A red light means they open all your luggage (not a
pretty sight), a green light means you go through hassle
free.
Take care and again thank you for
your prayers and support for the ministry in Peru.
Blessings,
Jon
