A message from Executive of HOPE Unites, Gael
Orr
I just want to let all of you know, that I
just made a phone call to the White House, and making a phone call,
expressing your concern for genocide and terrorism in Darfur takes
less than 1 minute. I mean, I just made the call, and it took no
time at all. As a nation, we really MUST do what we can to
stop the violence. I just want to personally encourage each of you,
to take action. Any action that you take, no matter how small
or insignificant it may seem, is EXTREMELY important. Those
who suffer the most are children, women, and vulnerable
adults. I urge you to prayerfully consider getting
involved. I've copied in text here to show you what you can do
to help.
Save Darfur: A big thank you
to the over 70,000 Save Darfur activists
who asked the President to highlight his plan for Darfur in State of
the Union Address on Tuesday. We truly appreciate your
efforts!
Unfortunately, the President spared few
words on Darfur in his
speech and failed to call for the actions needed to stop the
violence that threatens millions of innocent Darfuri
civilians.
The time for talk has passed -- it has been
nearly four years since the violence began in Darfur!
Will you please take two minutes to call the
White House comment
line now to express your disappointment in the President's
handling of Darfur in his State
of the Union address and urge him to push for real
action?
Step 1: Dial 202-456-1111
to reach the White House comment
line. Step 2: Use the talking points below when prompted
to leave your comment. Step 3: Click here to
report your call back to us (this
is very important - please don't skip this step!)
Talking Points for Your Call to the White
House
- It has been almost four years since the violence started in
Darfur. More than
400,000 innocent people have been killed and more than 2.5 million
have been displaced.
- President Bush must take immediate action to end the violence
by:
- Engaging world leaders to enforce the no-fly zone already
approved by the United Nations Security Council;
- Working with the United Nations to speed up the deployment
of a civilian protection force;
- Enacting tougher, targeted economic sanctions and punitive
measures;
- Instructing his administration to play a major diplomatic
role in supporting renewed, multi-party peace efforts;
- Cooperating with Congress to ensure sufficient funding for
peacekeeping and humanitarian aid.
The President's remarks on Darfur are a
disappointment to the millions of Americans who have been acting to
'awaken the conscience of the world' and demand greater protection
for the people of Darfur.
We need your help to make sure President
Bush understands the urgency Americans like us feel about protecting
innocent lives from genocide.
Please dial 202-456-1111 now to
get started and don't forget to
report your call back to us once you've hung up.
Thank you again for your support.
Best regards,
David Rubenstein Save Darfur

merchandise including a new selection of t-shirts and sweatshirts
featuring our new logo. The logo is an acacia tree, which often
serves as the only shelter for Darfuri refugees whose villages have
been destroyed, and is therefore a powerful symbol of hope that our
work together will result in lasting protection for the people of
Darfur.

The
Save Darfur Coalition is
an alliance of over 175 faith-based, advocacy and humanitarian
organizations whose mission is to raise public awareness about the
ongoing genocide in Darfur
and to mobilize a unified response to the atrocities that threaten
the lives of more than two million people in the Darfur region. To

Dear
members of our faith network,
We
would like to invite you to participate in our newest initiative,
the Weekend of Prayer for Darfur,
December 8th -10th. During the weekend we are calling on all faith
communities to include a prayer for Darfur in their weekly services, and to hang a
"Call to Your Conscience" banner outside their house of worship.
We
will deliver the banner to all interested houses of worship for
display during the weekend and beyond. Hundreds of churches,
synagogues and mosques around the country are currently helping to
raise awareness and inspire people to take action by displaying
banners. To sign up to receive the banner and more information
please visit www.SaveDarfur.org/faith.
The
Weekend of Prayer for Darfur is
also designed to coincide with International Human Rights Day,
December 10th. As communities of faith are united in recognizing
universal human rights, we hope that houses of worship will join
together during this weekend to pray for the people of Darfur and an end to the atrocities taking
place there.
We
will soon have available sample prayers, bulletin inserts, and other
resources to help engage your local faith leaders. To find out more
please visit www.SaveDarfur.org/faith, or email
Lindsey@savedarfur.org.
As
always, thank you for your commitment to helping bring peace to the
people of Darfur. Your continuing
efforts deliver hope and save lives.
All
the best,
Lindsey

Instead
of mourning a genocide, what if we could stop
one?
The Million
Voices for Darfur Campaign is making a special appeal to the faith
community throughout America, asking that houses of worship
nation-wide participate in the Million Voices for Darfur Campaign.
Hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost, but countless more
can be saved. But we must act now, before it's too late. The Save
Darfur Coalition asks that you lead your faith community in taking
action; please hold a service on Darfur to educate your congregants
about the plight of these innocent men, women and children. Or,
incorporate an education and action component into your regular
worship service, prayers or other spiritual gathering.
Educate Others
Teaching others about Darfur is an important step in raising
awareness and getting more people involved in the campaign to end
the genocide. Part of teaching others includes giving them a way to
take action. The Million Voices for Darfur campaign gives
individuals an easy way to take action by signing a postcard to
President Bush. You can order postcards or participate
electronically at www.MillionVoicesForDarfur.org.
