"Reaching
children through the healing nature of horses and the love of
Christ."
Trinity’s Hope was
started in 2005 as a joint effort between Hope Unites and Trinity
Stables to assist the
riding program at Children of Zion Village, a home for
children ages 1-17, many infected or affected by HIV and
AIDS.
The village is a family style farm setting, with goats,
ducks, sheep, chickens, and 17 horses. Along with working with and
teaching the children in school, Sarah-Deppen Haver (an
experienced rider and instructor) worked at Children of Zion from
2005-2007, heading up the riding program at the
home: giving the kids riding lessons, helping to break and train the
horses, and teaching about horse care. The children
learned to trust and love the gentle animals, and have gained
confidence in caring for and learning to ride and control them. They adore their horses and
ride every chance they get—their joy can be seen in a smile as they
go over their first jump, or heard in their laughter as they swim
the horses in the river or gallop through the bush. Horses are unparalleled in
their healing and therapeutic nature—this can be seen every day at
Children of Zion!
Wanting to help with the financial responsibilities of the
riding program, Trinity’s Hope helped to establish a rider
sponsorship program, connecting families, churches, and individuals
with each child. The
kids were so encouraged by their sponsors, and spent time writing to
them, drawing pictures for them, or making special crafts to
send! The funds brought
in by the sponsorships allowed the program not only to continue, but
to grow and expand, bringing in much needed equipment, supplies, and
most exciting for the kids, five new horses and a horse trailer in
May 2007!
