The cistern to the right is
a reminder of why a well is needed at our school, church and future
medical clinic in Kenya. People bucket water from great
distances and pour water into cisterns like this one, in order
that the construction site has water needed to mix concrete.
The cistern raised lots of good questions, one being, where do
people get their drinking water? Some who are more fortunate,
collect water through gutters on roof edges which channel the water
into cisterns. Others bucket water from streams and others collect
rain water from rocks into jars. But one thing is true about each of
these scenarios, none of the water captured from these methods is
clean enough for drinking. During the dry season, many drink
water that isn't fit enough even for animal consumption. We
really want to install a well in this community, we are
investigating the possibilies of even installing 3 or 4 wells.
We are looking at partnering with other non-profits in the
surrounding areas to work with us at installing wells in their areas
too. We found an organization that has the equipment in Kenya
to engage in this, our goal is to have them investigate our worksite
to give us a cost estimate. Staff of Hope is the well drilling
organization, located here in the USA. They told us that on
average, a well costs $11,000 USA dollars. If you would like
to assist us in this effort, we welcome your donations.
